While learning about Air transport during the theme I Love Transport, the children of Pre-Primary experienced meeting a Pilot who visited our school and the process of taking a flight. With a lot of excitement, the children asked the Pilot many questions they wondered about, such as “How do you fly the plane?” or “What happens when a bird hits the plane?” Along with answering their questions, the Pilot used a model of a plane and told the children the main parts of a plane and other things associated with flying, such as Air Traffic Control (ATC) and runway. He demonstrated how the plane takes-off and lands using the different wings.
For a more holistic learning, an Airport was set-up in KG corridors. The children chose a destination, filled their boarding passes, and made their own passports. They started the process by Checking-in and getting security tags on their bags. They then proceeded to Immigration counter and got their passports stamped. Thereafter, they reached the Security check where they got themselves as well as their bags scanned. They waited in the Boarding lounge, after which they boarded the flight. They experienced the inflight announcements, the safety demonstration and ordering their meals. The children had a truly enriching experience, with many aspiring to be Pilots.
