EXPERIENCING THE WORLD THROUGH LEARNING

Children in middle school undergo a vital transition to a more structured space. We believe even a structured curriculum can be transformed from within to make lifelong learning a real outcome. At Shiv Nadar School, middle school students learn in a highly integrated way. This teaches them that there are real connections between the academic domains they encounter. Learning is experiential and inter-disciplinary, compelling action, reflection and empathy among children. This is their light bulb moment, when they start to comprehend that school lessons and the outside world are intertwined.

At this stage, children begin
to come into their own.

Their innate potential starts to emerge and their interests begin to form. We recognize and support this time of self-discovery and offer them a nurturing space to explore and innovate, and extend their learning both in scholastic and co-scholastic areas through our unique AHA! Programme, the Language Week where children are steeped in words and ideas from literature and language, and the one-of-a-kind FUNKAAR event which uses the world as their classroom, and tasks them to condense and communicate their learnings at the end of the week.

Learning in our schools is rooted in the real world, and the curriculum reflects that expressly by incorporating physical, mental, moral and social aspects of development.

Academic excellence is balanced by artistic expression. Children learn life skills like critical thinking, creativity, decision-making and problem-solving, as well as emotional skills and human values. Woven into the curriculum, this kind of education gives children the ability and confidence to take on any challenge the world throws at them. Events and field trips, which tie into the curriculum objectives, make learning fun, real and rigorous, as do the several co-scholastic domains.

Assessment

The Shiv Nadar School follows the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation Scheme of School Based Assessment for both scholastic and co-scholastic areas. The grading pattern is as recommended by the CBSE.

Assessments are conducted for feedback and to create a tribe of reflective teachers and learners. We use a variety of methods, which include oral work, mind maps, open book assignments, classroom discussions, project work and experimentation, and written assignments.
