ANANDAM 2020

Anandam is a culmination of yearlong learning, where students come together to celebrate and share their learning through different baskets of AHA- Visual Arts, Dance, Music and Theatre. This year the students of Grade 9 to 12 engaged in the celebration virtually, giving their performances from the confines of their homes.

Art gives us freedom of expression and it was only apt that the Aha Festival Management students chose the theme ‘Freedom’ for this year’s Anandam. Incredible range of work was presented by the students on the theme exploring Freedom as a social construct. There were solo and group performances in music and dance where they showed their expressive qualities and conveyed their interceptive decisions. Plays were inspired by stories of WWI, navigating freedom in the times of the Internet and displacements of migrants. The students had discussions with historians, researchers and radio drama artists to understand freedom in different contexts. There was a visual art exhibition by students exploring conventional and unconventional mediums giving expression to their thoughts.

Funkaar 2020 -21

At Shiv Nadar School, we firmly believe in ‘Learning by Doing’. Experiences play an important role in a child's life by enhancing their social skills, intellectual skills, personality progress, and character appeal. We bring to you the digital version of Funkaar with the hope that you will experience the sense of joy and exuberance that the children have felt in stitching this together for you, while being in their homes removed by distance but aligned by the same ethos, artistic bent, appreciation for beauty and love for each other.

Both Grade 1 and 2 students explored the culture and art of the state of Telangana over the last few weeks. They chose one theme from each domain and explored the various concepts through many engaging activities.  The creative demonstrations of their learning are stitched together in the form of puppet shows, songs, music, play, dance, presentations, reflections etc.

Grades 3 to 5 - This year, our students explored the culture and art of the state of Telangana. A theme/ topic was chosen from two or more scholastic domains and was explored through different art forms- Visual arts, Dance, Music and Theatre. The creative demonstrations of their learnings have been stitched together in the form of group presentations, songs, art work, dance, role plays and reflections.

FUNKAAR 2020 @ Middle School

Anchored in the belief of continuous learning, this year’s Funkaar for middle school was celebrated on the new learning platform. Funkaar is designed to develop the students as 21st century learners, through the inter-disciplinary experiential learning practice followed by our school since its inception.

Funkaar week was celebrated with an approach of integrated learning making connections during the synchronous and asynchronous engagements. Interesting and novel activities were woven in each domain – language, math, social science and natural science with the underlying theme of creativity and aesthetics. The learning design helps students to explore a theme by way of art, survey, research and reflective methods.

The week culminated with student led workshops and lecture demonstrations by art faculty. The inter-school competitions designed for ‘Academic Festival’ gave the Funkaar week an exciting closure.

Computer Science week

We marked Computer Science week from 5th Dec to 13th Dec,2020. Students of Grades 3 to 5 and 8 to 10 participated in the same by getting involved in different coding/programming modules done in the class.

Grades 3 to 5 students experienced online coding modules in a fun and creative environment to understand concepts of computer programming. It instils computational thinking in students thus helps students logically organise and analyse the steps.

Grades 8 to 10 students explored  RoboMind which is a simple educational programming environment with its own scripting language that allows students to program a simulated robot. It also aims at offering insights in robotics and artificial intelligence. Students could design and animate simultaneously and pick up the methodology in one go on applications like Construct 3, Tinkercad and Autodesk expression editor.

Computer Science week was an enriching experience for students.

THE BUTTERFLY TIMES, OCTOBER 2020

The article on Mahatma Gandhi celebrating his birth anniversary aptly starts the October edition of the Butterfly Times. Our young environmentalists have penned down persuasive articles on the plight of Mother Earth and its inhabitants for this issue. One also gets to enter the world of fantasy and dinosaurs through the minds of our dreamers. A poem salutes the corona worries another remembers the time before the pandemic. The issue concludes with a Michael Morpurgo book review.

COLLOQUIUM 2020

‘Change calls for innovation and innovation calls for progress’

Colloquium encapsulates this spirit and gives students a platform to display their yearlong projects as part of their integrated IT curriculum. The Colloquium conference serves as a culmination to these Capstone Projects in the form of a product, project presentation or performance through debates competitions and collaborations.

The students of Grade 10 across the three campuses of Shiv Nadar participated in Colloquium 2020 and showcased their technology projects online. Capstone is a multifaceted long term assignment with an aim to identify and address a social problem. The students extensively work on social, economic or environment issues and come up with solutions, applying technology in real world context. The solution could be social or entrepreneurial in nature.

The students participate in this annual competition, presenting their projects to a jury. The competition follows a two-tier selection process, where student projects are first examined by a sub-jury, followed by a presentation and interaction with an external jury who judge the efficacy and viability of the projects. While 18 projects from Shiv Nadar School, Noida, Faridabad and Gurugram were presented to the sub-jury, seven projects made it to the final jury round.

The external jury comprised of Mr.Varun Chaudhary, Executive Director, CG Corp Global,  Mr.Ajay Bakaya, Executive Director, Sarovar Hotels & Resorts and Ms.Ramya Venkataraman, Founder & CEO of Centre for Teacher Accreditation(CENTA)

The program helps students to connect with community issues and integrate outside of school learning experiences. It allows them to think critically and solve challenging problems, develop skills such as research, teamwork, planning, goal setting and project management during the process.

Team Postura from Gurugram School secured the first position and Team Safe from Faridabad school secured Second Position.

Biodiversity - Justice for Wildlife Conservation

Zoya Arun, a student of grade 6 Gir initiated a wildlife justice fund, being inspired by her experiences in the Orikalankini teen fellowship.

After her expression of interest, our principal Ms. Anju Wal launched a series of webinars to raise more awareness on wildlife conservation.

4 young panelists from Grade 6: Zoya Arun, Aarav Kathuria, Sana Bose and Anurag Kukreja, researched and worked with their mentors over a month to lead the discussion on justice for wildlife on 24th December 2020.

In their first webinar, they showcased their own insights from the research, facts about various biomes and ways to live more sustainably.

They also invite Ms. Xavier, from HCL and interviewed her on her experiences with the Habitats trust and her current role.

The students talked about the importance of interconnected food webs and it’s relation to the pandemic. They also invited Kshitij from Grade 4, who has made a portable resuscitator inspired by the lack of ventilator devices in the pandemic.
