Colloquium 2019

Innovation is seeing what everybody has seen and thinking what nobody has thought.

–Dr. Albert, Györgyi

Colloquium 2019, The annual project-based learning challenge ‘Colloquium 2019’ was hosted in Shiv Nadar School, Gurugram, on December 20, 2019.

The students undergo an integrated IT curriculum which includes Robotics, Animation, Graphics, Sound Production, Programming and more. When they reach Grade 10, they are given an opportunity to implement their knowledge by way of a six-month-long Capstone project. These projects are ideated by the students and are designed to solve real-world issues. In developing their presentations, the students bring more than just their IT learning to the table; they also showcase their critical thinking, communication skills, and market understanding.

The competition follows a two-tier selection process, where student projects are first scrutinized by a sub-jury, followed by a presentation and interaction with an external jury who judges the efficacy and viability of the projects. Fourteen projects from both Shiv Nadar Schools,Noida and Gurugram, were presented to the sub-jury, out of which seven made it to the final jury round.

This year, an external jury consisting of Mr. Rajiv Makhni, India’s Tech Guru and Managing Editor of Technology, NDTV, Mr. Raj Rishi, Chief Business Officer - Corporate Travel, MakeMyTrip and Mr. Hitesh Oberoi, MD and CEO, InfoEdge (Naukri.com), graced the occasion, constituting the esteemed panel of judges.

Each team delivered a powerful presentation and showcased a working prototype. Team Fluid Force from Gurugram, which had designed a solution to conserve waste-water, a by-product of the RO purification process, was judged the winner. They were awarded a trip to CERN in Geneva, Switzerland.

Team, Pawsitivity , which had designed prosthetic paws using a 3D printer, came in a close second. This team comprised Arushi Shah, Navya Aggarwal, Navya Jain, Shreeya Mittal, Sprihha Singh and Utpal Chauhan. They all were given an Ipad as a token of appreciation.

There was a special mention for team Speranza , which had designed a belt to count fetal movements in pregnant women. The team comprised Arnav Mathur, Dhrupad Varambally,Nandan Polpakara, Pratiek Navani, Talin Dutta and Vishrut Shahi.

Our belief is that schools must serve as a platform in the emergence of the next generation of innovators, entrepreneurs, and visionaries. Twenty-first-century problems can only be solved with a twenty-first-century attitude – inventing solutions that are, in equal parts, innovative, disruptive and fearless.
