Festival of Lights: Celebrating Diwali with Joy, Creativity, and Gratitude at Shiv Nadar School Faridabad

MYP Learners Illuminate the Spirit of Service

As part of the Service as Action component of the MYP curriculum, students engaged in a heartfelt initiative that beautifully blended art, empathy, and community service. In the days leading up to Diwali, they hand-painted and decorated traditional diyas — symbols of hope and positivity — as tokens of appreciation for the school’s support staff.
Each diya was carefully crafted and lovingly gifted, expressing gratitude towards those who work tirelessly behind the scenes every day. Through this simple yet profound act, students internalized the true essence of Diwali — recognizing the light within others and giving with humility and joy.

Early Years: Utsav – A Joyful Grandparents’ Celebration

In the Early Years, Grandparents’ Day was celebrated from 15th to 17th October through a cheerful ‘Utsav’-themed event that filled the campus with laughter and togetherness. Families participated in carnival-style games such as Feeding the Clown, Stack the Pyramid, Ring and Win, Treasure Hunt, and Bowling, creating moments of excitement and bonding.
The muffin-decorating activity brought generations together in sweet celebration, while the diya-painting corner added a festive cultural touch. A buzzing photo booth captured radiant smiles, and the event concluded with a lively dance session where children and grandparents celebrated the joy of connection. The celebration beautifully strengthened intergenerational bonds and left hearts full of warmth.

Grades 1 & 2: Stories of Light and Kindness

Grades 1 and 2 celebrated a Special Diwali Assembly that radiated colour, energy, and meaning. The programme opened with the Thought of the Day and Campus News, followed by engaging performances.
Grade 1 students staged “The Lost Sweet”, a heartwarming skit that shared the message of happiness multiplying when shared, while Grade 2 presented “The Light Inside Us”, emphasizing the inner glow of kindness and compassion. Vibrant dance performances and festive music added to the cheer.
Ms. Preeti Gautam, Head – Early Years, extended warm Diwali wishes and felicitated winners of recent sports events. The celebration concluded with the National Anthem, leaving everyone smiling and inspired.

Nursery: Little Lamps of Happiness

Nursery Corbett learners presented a delightful class assembly on Diwali, capturing the festival’s spirit through song, dance, and storytelling. Dressed in traditional attire, they shared how families decorate their homes, make rangolis, and celebrate safely and joyfully. The young voices echoed the message of love and happiness, reminding everyone that even the smallest lamps can spread great light.

Primary Years: A Festival of Togetherness

Grades 3–5 marked the festival with a special assembly that highlighted Diwali’s significance as the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. The school corridors came alive with colourful rangolis, diyas, and laughter as children participated in festive games and creative activities. It was a day of shared joy, unity, and reflection — a reminder that the brightest celebrations are those filled with togetherness.

Middle Years: Expressions of Light and Hope

Grade 7 students organised a vibrant Diwali assembly that showcased their creativity and collaboration. Through an engaging mix of dances, skits, songs, and torch-light sequences, they portrayed the essence of Diwali as a festival of renewal and unity. Their performances radiated enthusiasm and conveyed powerful messages of goodness and gratitude, inspiring the entire school community.

The celebrations across grades reflected the school’s belief that festivals are not only about joy and colour, but also about values — gratitude, empathy, and shared happiness.
At Shiv Nadar School Faridabad, Diwali was not just celebrated — it was felt, lived, and shared, lighting hearts with compassion and togetherness.

Illuminating Learning: Grade 2 Explores the Science of Light

The Grade 2 learners at Shiv Nadar School, Faridabad concluded their exploration of the theme ‘Light’ with an engaging hands-on project that beautifully blended creativity, problem-solving, and scientific inquiry on 26th September 2025.

After weeks of discovering how light travels, reflects, and interacts with materials, the young scientists were presented with an intriguing challenge — How will you light up three different rooms using one source of light?

Working in groups, they designed imaginative models using shoeboxes, coloured plastic sheets, and mirrors. Each shoebox represented a room, and the objective was to illuminate all three with a single light source. Learners experimented with mirrors to reflect and redirect light, while coloured sheets added vibrancy and helped them observe how light changes when passing through different materials.

The culmination was marked by a Learning Walk, where learners proudly presented their models to peers, observed each other’s designs, and reflected on how light behaves in varied situations. The process encouraged collaboration, built confidence, and allowed children to communicate their scientific thinking with clarity.

Through this immersive experience, learners discovered that light travels in straight lines and that reflective surfaces can effectively redirect it. The project brought joy, excitement, and a sense of accomplishment as their scientific ideas came alive in tangible, creative forms — truly reflecting the spirit of learning by doing at Shiv Nadar School, Faridabad.
