STEAM Session on the Electromagnetic Spectrum of Light

On 11th December 2024, Shiv Nadar School Faridabad hosted a dynamic and interactive STEAM session for Grade 5 students on the topic 'The Electromagnetic Spectrum of Light.' The session was led by Mr. Sam Gibbs, an internationally renowned science educator celebrated for his expertise and ability to inspire young learners through hands-on, inquiry-based approaches to science.

The session aimed to demystify the concept of the electromagnetic spectrum with a particular focus on visible light, allowing students to connect theoretical knowledge to real-world applications. Mr. Gibbs introduced the topic with an engaging explanation of the electromagnetic spectrum, emphasizing the importance of visible light as a small yet significant part of this spectrum.

The highlight of the session was the series of interactive experiments that captivated students' curiosity and facilitated experiential learning. Through the use of prisms, students explored the dispersion of light into its constituent colors, observing firsthand the spectrum of visible light. Additionally, simple yet impactful experiments demonstrated concepts such as reflection, refraction, and absorption of light, enhancing students' understanding of light behavior.

Mr. Gibbs ensured an inclusive and participatory learning environment, encouraging students to ask questions and hypothesize outcomes before conducting each experiment. The enthusiasm among students was palpable as they collaborated, experimented, and shared their findings.

The session concluded with a thought-provoking discussion on the significance of light in everyday life and its applications in technology, health, and communication. Students left with a deeper appreciation for the wonders of science and an eagerness to explore more.

Shiv Nadar School Faridabad remains committed to fostering scientific curiosity and innovation through engaging learning opportunities like these. We extend our gratitude to Mr. Sam Gibbs for delivering an inspiring session that brought the electromagnetic spectrum of light to life for our young learners.
