The Literula week 2021

The Literula week, 3^rd to 7^th May 2021.

Oscar Wilde said, “you are what you read.” Books, therefore, play a significant role in the life of every individual. It is a magical world full of creativity that fuels a reader's imagination and makes people open to adopting new ideas.

Shiv Nadar School is proud of its culture that encourages the students to read and express themselves through various channels.

One of the first engagements organised at the Shiv Nadar School at the start of the new academic session is the “Literula week”.  An entire week to celebrate reading, thinking, questioning, imagining and writing.

Middle and Senior Years: They had the“Meet the Author” sessions with the famous and “cool” Venito Cohelo and Feisal Alkazi. “Writers are people who don’t quit-keep writing and writing”, was Ms. Cohelo’s advice besides owning a large and indiscriminate curiosity. Mr. Alkazi conducted a very interactive session, often asking the attendees to voice their views. The fact of just “put pen to paper and articulate your thoughts” was very well put across in all the sessions.

Students also had a chance to meet their inspiring peers; our homegrown cub authors!

• The online- “Paperless Press” trio of Agastya Rao, Abhimanyu Rao and Mihir Rao spoke about the need for a positive eco-friendly newspaper.
• Mavis presented the first of a 5-book fantasy series called; Sunny Methoil: The Comet.
• A collection of poetic musings was presented through Tarisha Kaushik’s “Ouroboros”, Anamika Ghosh’s “A peek into my mind” and Shrey Gupta’s “Sixteen”.

Each of our authors spoke about what prompted them to write and their journey to publish. Most evident in each session was the level of EQ and maturity that led to the creativity of the authors and the enthralled audience.

Primary Years: Each class expressed their love for books and reading through an array of engagements.

Gr. II played dress-up as their favourite Dr. Seuss character and livened the presentation with little enactments. The excitement was palpable.

Gr. III was introduced to Ruskin Bond. Students expressed their fondness about their favourite characters, hand-crafted props like pearl necklaces, masks, suspenders, etc... All part of the learning and expression that reading books allow.

Gr. IV beaming with a pool of information on books and the different genres these enthusiasts put up the motto of “reading accelerates success”! They participated in the quiz and in a heart-to-heart rendezvous with their delighted teachers to express their love for reading and literature.

Gr. V too had a heart-to-heart with literature. They discussed at length the significance, types of genres and Indian authors. To share the mystery and adventure of their favourite books by bringing to life some characters, the students played dress-up using various online filters and props to emulate their chosen persona.

It was an enriching experience to foster the love for literature.

Early Years: “Catch them young and watch them grow”. The students were introduced to "who is an author", a publisher, what are the various components of a book, maintenance of books, role and rules of a library and encouraged to start their own little libraries.

Through various age-appropriate activities such as story sequencing, creation of a book cover, weaving newly learned words into a song, a show and tell, the students were kept joyously busy. They learnt about the elements of a story, a beginning, middle, end, how to predict the story besides, using their imagination to retell a story.

Nursery classes were narrated to the “The Brown Bear” by Bill Martin Jr. (with a visual presentation). Kindergarteners were visited by the “Book Fairy” and were read to the story by Rod Campell, “Dear Zoo”. The Gr. I students read author Keven Kenkes’ stories and a Hindi story, “नन्हे मददगार”.

This year along with the enthusiastic student participation the Parents’ collective of the “Book Lovers Club” also celebrated The Literula week. The convenors of the club organised a “Words & More” for the fellow bibliophiles. Starting with a scramble-unscramble of Shakespearean heroine names, a “Master” quiz, a “spin the yarn” and “let’s read those stories”, wherein everyone was asked to paint a picture in under 100 words.

The Literula week engaged students, teachers and parents alike, throughout the week.

Anna Quindlen aptly said, “Books are the plane, and the train, and the road. They are the destination and the journey. They are home.”

At Shiv Nadar School, we wish our students and their families to stay “home” and stay safe.

E Pluribus Unum-which means "One out of many" or "One from many" is an Emagazinewith articles by the students of grades 9 to 12 of Shiv Nadar Schools of all the three campuses. Themagazinenot only showcases the creativity, research skills and writing skills of our students but also gives them a platform to air their views on a plethora of topics.

Congratulations to Our First Grade X - Batch

During the ravages of the Pandemic and switching to Digital Online Learning, our First batch of 33 grade 10 students and tirelessteachers have done us proud.

Our children have shown exceptional resilience, grit and stamina to learn through new tools and in the most adverse and unforeseen of circumstances.

Our tireless teachers have navigated through their homes and work, been mother, brother, sister, guide and counselor to each child to keep the ship sailing on an even keel. Our grade 10 parents have battled with the adolescent temperaments, expectations, aspirations and family commitments to support and guide the children through these tumultuous times.

We congratulateevery single child who has crossed this milestone in their academic career today. Each one of them has worked to the best of their competency, capacity and ability. I am certain that the journey has been a learning one and rewarding in every way despite the turbulent times. The possibilities to learn in multiple ways have been enormous.

There were some guidlines issed by CBSE to cap the scores of a first time grade 10 batch of a school.

As you read ahead, keep one thought in your mind. This Result is not about Scores or Marks. It is about an undeterred Resolve, Patience, Courage and Combativeness.

TheSchool Average stands at 84.6%.Students in the Range of 90% to 100%

80 to 89% Range- 17 Students. No student is below 71%.

Over 90%of our Batch of 33 have been in the school since 2017 and 15 of them sinceinception.

Independence Day 2021

Today, on the occasion of India's 75th Independence Day, most of us will be cherishing the idea and ideals of freedom even more, having had a taste of what a curb on basic freedom feels like in the last couple of months.

As we design the future, let us carry with us the same virtues that our leaders held so dear during the freedom struggle.

Together, let us strive towards an education and societal pradigm that gives us independance of thought, resolve and action.

School Tour of the Early Years spaces

South Block at Shiv Nadar School Faridabad, came alive with wonder, curiosity, greetings, chatter, play, questions, explorations when our youngest learners visited their school for the first time.

The students and their parents were invited to school in small groups and were taken for a tour of the Early Years spaces in South block.

Delighted to meet and interact with their HRT, the little ones spent time with them in their classrooms. Some sat on their chairs at the table and asked“हम activities कब करेगें?”while the others were busy observing the display boards and exploring their classrooms.

The children enjoyed themselves exploring the play area. Happy to be on the swings, slides, see-saws, a few of them even attempted to climb the rope ladders. The library had them settle into the bean bags while some identified the books with their parents. At the amphitheatre there was wonderful chatter and smiles as the children descended the stairs to be on the stage.

The parentsappreciated the school for organizing the visit and requested for such visits to be organized once a week or even once a month for a longer duration of time.

मुंशी प्रेमचंद जयंती

मुंशी प्रेमचंद जयंती के उपलक्ष्य में कक्षा ३ से ५ के बच्चों ने १९ जुलाई २०२१ से ३१ जुलाई २०२१ तक इस महान साहित्यकार के बारे में जाना | सभी बच्चों ने इनकी जीवनी को संक्षेप में जाना और प्रमुख रचनाओं के नामों से अवगत हुए |

कक्षा ३ से ५ के बच्चों ने मुंशी प्रेमचंद द्वारा रचित एक कहानी को पढ़ा और उस पर आधारित गतिविधि की | उन्होंने गूगल फॉर्म के ज़रिए quiz भी किया |

कक्षा ३ के बच्चों ने ‘दो बैलों की कथा’ द्वारा घनिष्ठ मित्रता, जानवरों और मनुष्य के प्रेम तथा तालमेल को जाना एवं उस पर चर्चा की | कक्षा ४ में बच्चों ने ‘ईदगाह’ कहानी सुनी, समझी और पढ़ी | सभी बच्चों ने हामिद द्वारा घर के बड़े-बूढों के लिए नि:स्वार्थ प्रेम पर चर्चा की और उससे भावनात्मक रूप से जुड़ पाए | उन्होंने इस कहानी का मंचन भी किया |  

किस्सागोई – पंच परमेश्वर

मुंशी प्रेमचंद द्वारा शुरू की गई कहानी वाचन की कला - ‘किस्सागोई’ से कक्षा ५ के बच्चे परिचित हुए | उन्होंने मुंशी प्रेमचंद द्वारा रचित प्रसिद्ध कहानी पंच परमेश्वर को किस्सागोई के माध्यम से प्रस्तुत किया | हमारे कक्षा ५ के ‘किस्सागोइओं’ ने भावपूर्ण कथा वाचन करते हुए पंचायती राज व्यवस्था को समझते हुए सरपंच की ज़िम्मेदारी और नैतिकता का बोध भी किया | इस कहानी के द्वारा सभी छात्र मुंशी प्रेमचंद की लेखन शैली से भी अवगत हुए |

Riding the Storm

The award ceremony, aptly named Riding the Storm, was held on 9th september to celebrate the indomitable spirit of resilience and empathy and felicitate the students who won awards for academic excellence. It was held in the physical space in Wild Cat Hall with all the covid protocols in place .The ceremony was started by lighting the lamp which set an auspicious tone. This was followed by a musical rendition by the school music choir.The tradition of awarding excellence awards for academic performance is an integral and much revered part of SNS culture.

The awards for excellence in languages were given away and were followed by awards for other subjects. This was followed by a soul stirring rendition by the students of the western music AHA basket. The SNS excellence awards were conferred on six students, namely Jahaan Paul,Parth Sharma, Neeyati Saini,Kaashvi Dewan, Shagun Rajput and Krishiv Khatri. This was followed by testimonials by Neeyati Saini and Parth Sharma about how they reached their goals and what it was that brought them to this place. Last but not the least, the grade 10 students were felicitated for excelling in their boards results by adapting to the drastic changes, coping up with illnesses and surviving the turmoil in the year that was. The high achievers, namely. Suhani Sharma, Nirvani Jain, Nipun Jain and arsh Edke shared their thoughts about their journey of last year's session. This was followed by a Vote of Thanks by the Director Principal Mrs Anju Wal who once again congratulated all the award winners.

A lot of hard work, technical expertise, creativity and innovative thinking had gone into planning what finally culminated into the Award Ceremony.
