MY3 Community Project Showcase: Learning Through Action and Responsibility

As part of the MYP Community Project 2025–26, MY3 learners showcased their ongoing work to the Middle Years Parents. This meaningful engagement marked the first Community Project showcase in the run-up to the final MYP Community Project Exhibition.

What is the MYP Community Project?

The Community Project is a core component of the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) undertaken by students in MY3. It invites learners to identify a real community need, explore it through inquiry, and take purposeful action to make a positive difference. The project places strong emphasis on student agency, reflection, and responsibility, while developing key skills such as research, planning, collaboration, communication, and self-management.

Through the Community Project, students move beyond academic learning to engage with the world around them—understanding impact, ethics, and the importance of sustained action.

The Showcase: A Reflective Checkpoint

For this first showcase, MY3 learners voluntarily set up stalls to present their projects, clearly articulating their goals, the communities they serve, success criteria, and evidence of action taken so far. Parents engaged in thoughtful conversations with students, asked questions, and offered feedback, gaining deeper insight into both the purpose and the process of the Community Project.

The showcase served as an important reflective checkpoint for learners.  It was an opportunity to pause, evaluate their progress, and consider next steps as they continue their journey toward the final exhibition. While some students chose to raise funds through sales-based initiatives, others focused on awareness-building and advocacy, highlighting the diverse ways in which meaningful community impact can be achieved.

Looking Ahead

This first MY3 Community Project Showcase reflects learning in action, where student voice, reflection, and responsibility come together. As learners continue to refine their projects, they will deepen their understanding of community needs and prepare for the culminating MYP Community Project Exhibition.

Most importantly, the showcase reinforced the value of authentic engagement and parent partnership, demonstrating how collaborative learning experiences can enrich understanding and empower students to create purposeful change.

The Shark Tank Experience: When Ideas Meet Opportunity

In the Shark Tank experience, students stepped confidently into the role of young entrepreneurs, pitching their product ideas with clarity, conviction, and purpose. This engaging platform encouraged learners to think creatively while grounding their ideas in real-world problem-solving.

Adding an authentic and exciting dimension to the experience, parents from our school community took on the role of the Sharks. They listened attentively, asked probing questions, and offered constructive feedback, challenging students to think deeper and refine their ideas in the moment. The dynamic exchange mirrored real entrepreneurial settings, making learning both meaningful and memorable.

Throughout the process, students demonstrated strong critical thinking, communication, and adaptability, responding thoughtfully to questions and iterating on their pitches with confidence. The experience highlighted their ability to articulate ideas, defend choices, and learn from feedback.

Together, these experiences exemplified learning beyond textbooks—where creativity meets application, and ideas are nurtured through authentic engagement. Most importantly, the Shark Tank experience showcased the power of parent partnership, reinforcing how collaboration between school and families can enrich the learning journey in truly impactful ways.

MY2 Chemistry Cook-Off: When Chemistry Meets the Kitchen

The MY2 corridors were transformed into a vibrant Chemistry Cook-Off, where learning stepped out of the laboratory and into everyday life through food.

Working collaboratively in teams, students designed, tested, and refined their own recipes, applying key chemistry concepts such as emulsification, browning reactions, acid–base reactions, and temperature control. Each dish became a hands-on experiment, requiring learners to think critically about how ingredients interact and how scientific principles influence taste, texture, and presentation.

Beyond cooking, students engaged deeply with the scientific process. They collected and analysed data, incorporated feedback, managed budgets, and made informed decisions to improve their outcomes. The Cook-Off also provided a platform for students to confidently articulate their learning, as they explained the chemistry behind their dishes to parents, teachers, and peers.

The Chemistry Cook-Off was a celebration of curiosity, collaboration, and applied learning. It highlighted how chemistry is not confined to textbooks or labs, but is deeply embedded in everyday experiences, nurturing learners who can connect knowledge to the real world with confidence and creativity.

Educator Achievement - The Tejasvini Award 2025

award

With immense pride we would like to share an Educator's achievement.

Ms Anubha Singh, the HOD- Hindi (IC curriculum) and the Student Welfare Advisor, is a lady who rode the path often undriven. She channeled her passion for adventure and travel into biking. What started as a hobby to challenge herself is now a lifestyle for Anubha Ma'am.

We share her achievemnet in her own words:

"I’m honoured to receive the Tejasvini Award for being “Unremitting in Adventure.” With 60,000+ km across terrains like Badrinath, Ladakh, Zanskar, Adi Kailash, Om Parvat, Rajasthan and many more, every journey has shaped me just as much as I shaped it.

As a rider and an educator, I’ve always believed that adventure isn’t just about the road—it’s about courage, resilience, and choosing to live life unapologetically.

I stand by the belief that progression matters more than perfection. One brave step at a time, on the saddle and in the classroom, creates transformations that truly count.

This recognition is a gentle reminder that our stories, no matter how small they may seem, hold the power to inspire and move others."

We congratulate Anubha Ma'am and wish her more power to keep us inspired.

The Parent Story | A Five-Day Therapeutic Pilot Group for the Parent Community to Reflect on the Parent-Child Relationship

The Parent Story was a small pilot program, rooted in the principles of child and developmental psychology and narrative therapy. The 5 days were experiential in nature. The sessions were designed as a reflective space and were meant for participants and the facilitator to co-discover the various stories we have of ourselves: as individuals, as parents, and as family members. We explored the many stories of happy and unhappy families, where the ideas of happiness and unhappiness come from, and how that impacts our own parenting styles.

Day 1: The focus for day 1 was 'The Many Stories of a Family.' Here are the goals we set to achieve:

  • To understand that ideas of “functional” and “dysfunctional” families are socially and culturally constructed and not defined by a single story.
  • To explore dominant cultural and personal parenting stories, and open space for alternative ones.
  • The explore the many nuances of violence and what it means to be violent towards a family member

Day 2: The focus for day 2 was 'The Many Stories of a Child and Me.' Here are the goals we set to achieve:

  • Explore how the parent–child relationship and family stories have evolved over time.
  • Introduce mirroring and the Window of Tolerance through lived experience, story, and reflection.
  • Reflect on how one person’s Window of Tolerance impacts the others’ in the family.

Day 3: The focus for day 3 was 'The Parenting Club.' Here are the goals we set to achieve:

  • Reflect on your own childhood stories and create your own club of life.
  • Identify all the little actions and roles that make up parenting, represent them in the club of parenting, and assess each relationship carefully.

Day 4: The focus for day 4 was 'Authoring My Future Parent Story.' Here are the goals we set to achieve:

  • Thinking about how Positive Childhood Experiences (PCEs) and Benevolent Childhood Experiences (BCEs) impact our Club of Parenting
  • Thinking about how we want to use this knowledge to author our Parent Story.

Day 5: The focus of day 5 was 'The Relationship Certificate.' Here are the goals we set to achieve:

  • Revisit the conversations from the last 4 days
  • Reimagine and plan our Life Certificate
  • Reimagine and author our Parent Story by writing our Parent-Child Relationship Certificate

Ability Week at Shiv Nadar School, Noida: Inclusion in Action

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities, observed globally on 3rd December, serves as an important reminder of our shared responsibility to build societies where every individual—regardless of ability—can participate, contribute, and thrive. Guided by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs theme, “Fostering Disability- Inclusive Societies for Advancing Social Progress,” Ability Week at Shiv Nadar School, Noida unfolded as a meaningful celebration of diversity, empathy, and collective growth.Students across all cohorts and curricula participated with enthusiasm, making inclusion a
lived experience rather than a concept. For our Early Years learners, Mini Marvels hands-on activities provided joyful opportunities to explore differences through play, creativity, and shared discovery. Within the Primary Years classrooms, quality circle time emerged as a reflective space where students gently wove together a shared thread of diversity through their lived experiences. As each voice was heard and valued, learners gained deeper perspectives, engaged in mindful listening, and began to cultivate empathy and mutual respect—laying the foundation for inclusive thinking from an early age.One of the most impactful moments was the Empathy Walk, filled with the energetic beats of a marching band. This walk symbolised solidarity, togetherness, and the collective commitment to creating an inclusive community. Music gatherings across the school added warmth and connection, reminding students of the unifying power of rhythm and shared  expression.

The Middle Years hosted an Open Mic that celebrated student voice and talent. Learners confidently showcased dance performances, singing, poetry, and creative expressions, reinforcing the message that every individual has unique strengths worth celebrating. A thoughtfully curated special assembly brought the entire school community together, tying together the reflections, learning, and shared experiences of the week. Ability Week was not merely an event, but a movement—towards empathy, accessibility, and a future where every voice matters.
