Project Comfurt: Shaping a Compassionate Future for Animals
By Neeyati Saini and Swinzal Taneja
Neeyati and Swinzal, IBDP students at Shiv Nadar School, Faridabad talk about Project Comfurt, an initiative led by them promoting animal welfare through awareness programmes and collective community engagement.
Project Comfurt is a student-led initiative dedicated to pawsitively promoting animal welfare and fostering a compassionate world for our furry friends. The foundation of the project lies in a strong belief that every creature deserves to lead a peaceful life filled with love and care. This mission is rooted in empathy and responsibility, and seeks to create a future where animals are treated with the kindness and consideration they rightfully deserve.
By instilling these values in young minds, the initiative aims to shape a generation that respects and protects all living beings. Through a series of impactful programmes and activities, Project Comfurt raises awareness about animal welfare, encourages responsible pet ownership, and works actively to improve the lives of animals in need.
What Does Project Comfurt Do?
Webinar on Wildlife Conservation
One of our most successful events was a webinar with Ms Srijanti Maurya, founder of the non-profit organisation, The Animal Patronage. A TEDx and TED-Ed speaker and an ardent champion of youth activism, Ms Maurya shared her insights on the pressing need to protect biodiversity and conserve wildlife and, most importantly, how the youth can help. Through the webinar, participants were able to engage in discussions and be a part of informative presentations and interactive sessions. This left the participants inspired and equipped with actionable steps to play their part in supporting wildlife conservation.
Sweater Making Workshop
In an innovative move that combines sustainability, creativity, and compassion to raise awareness, we conducted a sweater-making workshop to craft cosy sweaters for animals to tide them through the harsh winters. Children from Grades 6 and 7 repurposed old sweaters and socks to craft cosy sweaters for animals and, along the way, learnt about upcycling. This gave them a sense of accomplishment and instilled in them a sense of responsibility towards the environment.
Once the sweaters were completed, they were donated to the Voice for Voiceless animal shelter, ensuring that the dogs there stayed warm and comfortable during harsh cold waves. The workshop was a heartwarming experience, blending environmental stewardship with kindness toward animals while nurturing the creativity and empathy of the children involved.
Project Comfurt at the Joy of Sharing Initiative
The Joy of Sharing at Shiv Nadar School nurtures empathy, gratitude, and social responsibility, inspiring students to give back meaningfully. Project Comfurt was involved as part of the programme and featured spirit animal tarot readings, a prize wheel, and the sale of dog clothing, colouring books, and trinket trays. The funds raised supported animal welfare causes, reflecting the power of consistent, collaborative action.
Creating a Kinder World
Project Comfurt’s journey truly shows the impact of small, meaningful actions.
From insightful webinars to hands-on workshops and fundraising events, the initiative emphasises the importance of education, creativity, and community engagement in fostering and creating a compassionate world for animals. By inspiring young minds to take responsibility for their surroundings and fellow living beings, it is paving the way for a more empathetic and sustainable future.
