Historic Victory for Shiv Nadar School, Faridabad at the CBSE North Zone II Chess Championship

In a historic achievement, the Under 11 Boys Chess Team of Shiv Nadar School, Faridabad secured first position at the CBSE North Zone II Boys Chess Championship 2026.

The four day championship was held from 24 to 27 August 2026 at Mother Teresa School, Kurukshetra. The SNS team remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, securing four wins and one draw across five rounds. With a total of nine points, the team won the Gold Medal and qualified for the CBSE Games Nationals, scheduled to be held in Jalandhar from 16 to 20 October 2026.

The winning team comprised:

  • Pranit Rastogi, Captain
  • Aruj Sahai
  • Ruhaan Taneja, Grade 4 Corbett
  • Viraj Veer Singh

Captain Pranit Rastogi led from the front, winning all five of his matches and securing the Gold Medal on his board. He finished first among the individual participants in North Zone II, becoming the North Zone Champion in his category. His victory against the top seeded player from defending champion DPS Gurugram was an important moment in the team’s journey to the title.

Ruhaan Taneja won four of his five matches. His performance in the final round proved crucial, as the team needed at least two wins to secure first position. Ruhaan was one of the two players who won their matches and helped seal the championship.

Viraj Veer Singh, the youngest member of the team and a first time participant in a CBSE tournament, displayed remarkable confidence and determination, winning three matches.

Aruj Sahai made a valuable contribution of 2.5 points, strengthening the team’s overall standing in the championship.

This historic victory reflected the team’s camaraderie, composure and collective determination. The players consistently supported one another and delivered their best performances when it mattered most.
