Steve Messam’s "Auto" Installation

As part of the Madras Art Weekend, our school was proud to partner in hosting a remarkable installation by renowned British environmental artist Steve Messam. This unique exhibition brought together global artistic vision and local cultural essence, transforming our campus into a hub of creative exploration.

At the heart of the installation was an auto rickshaw, an everyday emblem of Chennai’s vibrant streets, reimagined through Messam’s signature artistic language. Using locally sourced fabric, he transformed this familiar urban symbol into a striking work of art, prompting viewers to see the ordinary through an extraordinary lens.

Adding to the significance of the occasion, the installation was unveiled by Mrs. Kiran Nadar, Chairperson, Kiran Nadar Musuem of Art, an eminent art patron whose presence underscored the importance of making contemporary art more accessible to communities.

Our students engaged deeply with the installation, exploring how art intersects with culture, movement, and identity. Through reflections and discussions, they discovered how large-scale installations can challenge perspectives and redefine spaces.

As venue partners for Madras Art Weekend, we were honored to provide a space where art could inspire, spark conversations, and connect communities. This collaboration was more than an exhibition—it was a celebration of artistic storytelling and the power of creativity.
