'Inclusion in schools'.
On 7th December 2019, we had an interactive session by The Latika Foundation Director- Ms.Jo Chopra on 'Inclusion in schools'.
The session starts at 12:00 pm with a one hour talk followed by a half an hour Question-Answer round.
Ms. Jo Chopra McGowan is American by birth and a writer by profession.
She is a co-founder and director of the Latika Roy Foundation, a voluntary organization in Dehradun, India working for children with different abilities. She started it for her youngest daughter Moy Moy, who was 12 weeks premature and has Cerebral Palsy and a degenerative disorder.
Jo believes passionately in the power of ordinary people to change the world. She has used her peace movement organising skills to build an institution which is largely staffed by local people with limited formal education but who have a wealth of creativity, resourcefulness and ingenuity.
The teachers and few admin staff were privileged to be a part of this session and discuss children with diverse needs, their importance in our lives as teachers and a different approach to see or deal with them in schools or elsewhere.
We saw these beautiful children through the lens of Jo which in itself was heartwarming and thought provoking.
Each teacher left the room with a deeper understanding of pupils with Special needs and had endless conversations with Ms.Jo and each other post session.
