Entrepreneurial Challenge ‘SHARK TANK’

“Entrepreneurship is living a few years of your life like most people won't

so you can spend the rest of your life like most people can’t.”

                                                                                                                            - Anonymous

With a perspective to develop an entrepreneurial mind-set in the young minds of Secondary School Students, an Entrepreneurial Challenge ‘SHARK TANK’ was initiated by the Commerce Department of Shiv Nadar School, Faridabad. The pitch of five teams was selected for the preliminary and final round of the competition to be conducted on 23rd and 26th August 2022 respectively.

Team 1 : ‘Masketisers’ with participants as Samya Arora and Anaya Pal had a business plan of a machine which can sterilise the used masks. With their punch line as ‘Medical plastic is not fantastic’, this product clearly aimed at sustainable development.

Team 2 : ‘Toothy’ with participants as Manaasvi Vij, Jeneya Vaidya, Ada Khemka and Neihal Gupta had a business plan for a machine which can disinfect tooth brushes.

Team 3 : ‘Safe Chalo’ with participants as Kaashvi Dewan, Arnav Balyan, Agastya Iyer, Sameesha Gaur and Aarav Peter aimed to reduce road accidents caused by drunk driving with a breath analyser machine fitted in the steering wheel.

Team 4 : ‘Carti-B’ with participants as Hrit Gupta, Raghav Garg, Neeyati and Rayrith Kundu aimed to remove the hassle of waiting in long queues for billing after shopping with their unique trolleys which have an inbuilt and safe payment mechanism.

Team 5 : ‘Roba’ with participants as Vanshika Garg, Lakshi and Sanskriti Nagar provided the much needed service of storing the off seasons clothes, blankets, etc. for the entire period when the customers do not need them.

All five teams were well prepared to convince the sharks about the profitability of their products. The participants, armed with statistics and in-depth research, validated and made their arguments more emphatic with right facial expressions, body movements and gestures. All the teams exhibited great oratorical skills along with exemplary entrepreneurial abilities. They put in tremendous hard work to showcase their hidden talent. The young entrepreneurs displayed confidence in presenting their arguments before the sharks.

The sharks comprised of our three judges- Ms. Shilpa Khadse, Vice Principal, International Curriculum, Shiv Nadar School, Faridabad, Mr. Umang Malik, Director, Faridabad Model School Managing Committee and Kushagra Khandelwal, a Grade XII student of Entrepreneurship. The eminent jury members grilled the young entrepreneurs with the most challenging queries. The competition was very stiff as all teams exhibited immense confidence and responded wonderfully to the questions asked by the visionary judges.

While announcing the much awaited results, Ms. Shilpa Khadse appreciated all the teams for their unique ideas and impactful presentations.

There was a tie for the First Position – Teams ‘Safe Chalo’ and ‘Carti-B’ both managed to secure this coveted position for their innovative ideas.

Second Position was secured by Team ‘Masketisers’ for their effective business pitch.

Third place was acquired by Team ‘Toothy’ for their overwhelming presentation.

The efforts of all the teams were applauded by one and all. The enthusiastic anchors of the event Lakshita Sharma and Aryanveer Goenka of Grade XI kept the audience engaged and entertained throughout the event. The recital of self-composed poems by Ria Singh and Mannat Kaur of Grade XII further ignited the spirit of innovation and creativity in one and all.

The words of wisdom of our Director Principal Ms. Anju Wal inspired all the students to think out of the box and explore the entrepreneur hidden in them. The day concluded on an enthusiastic note as the presentations of the participants infused entrepreneurial fervour in the entire audience comprising of secondary school students. The breadth and depth of knowledge that they gained through this event was simply unparalled!

Author's Visit - Kevin Missal

It is said that “A child who reads is an adult who thinks”. Reading stimulates our imagination and expands our understanding of the world. For this reason, We at Shiv Nadar School believe in giving our children an opportunity to meet, greet and intearact with  authors who have made a mark for themselves by following their passion. Keeping the tradition of author’s visit alive, We inivited Mr. Kevin Missal , author of national best selling Kalki Trilogy , for Grades 5, 6 and 7  on 29th July , 2022.

It was an interactive session full of questions soaring the curiosity of our students . The students exhibited great enthusiasm , spirit and spark to learn from the journey of this fantastic, young author. The senior school library , where the meet took place , brimmed with the voices of the students eager to share their keen interest in the process of writing . Two of his most famous books , were on display for children to purchase. The students were enthusiastic to get their copies signed by the author as a mark of memory . English Extempore Speech Competition – Middle School – SNS Faridabad

Ready-made speech is a dead lion, extempore speech is a live cat. The latter connects you with the audience, the former distracts their attention.

– Rm Shanmugam Chettiar

To uphold the value of student voice and foster in learners the courage to speak their minds, SNS Faridabad organised an English extempore speech competition for the middle school. The event was graced by the Director Principal Anju Wal and Ms Deblina, the Head of International Curriculum (SNS Noida). Held in Wild Cats Hall on 20 July 2022 from 10:00 AM onwards, the event comprised one participant from each section across grades 6 to 8, speaking on a myriad of topics given to them half an hour before the competition. Coming to the stage without any formal preparation or memorised speech did not impede the contestants who were all brimming with contrarian and novel ideas. The students had to test their opinions and awareness of topics relevant to their lived realities, to which each participant had both interesting and inspiring responses.

Ms Deblina, the panel of judges and  Ms Anju Wal were invited to share their views on the event. While Ms Deblina emphasised on the importance of the courage to think outside the box to arrive at creative responses to ideas, our Director Principal, Ms Anju Wal commended the participants on their presentation skills.   Thereafter, the results were announced; these were as follows:

Grade 6: Yug Banga (6 Corbett)

Grade 7: Gunnika Khurana (7 Gir)

Grade 8:  Zoya Mirani (8 Kanha)

In one of his lectures, Ralph Waldo Emerson had proclaimed, “Speech is power: speech is to persuade, to convert, to compel.” At SNS Faridabad, participants from the middle school left the audience and the judges awed with their ability to persuade, convert, compel and motivate, setting high standards for consequent extempore competitions.

Welcome Back to School!

The beginning of the session, April 4th, 2022 was no less than a Red Letter Day.  The School revived full scale operations  after two disruptive, fundamentally different and defining years in Education.

The children returned to school in full numbers. Cutting across age and grade barriers, they all had one thing in common. The deep desire to be on campus, to learn, play, and experience real time impressions and real spaces. I am certain the parents matched their enthusiasm and optimism.

The eight weeks before the Summer Break have been intense and momentous. To re-fuel the school engine, revive school processes, practices and student engagement has been a labour of love.
