Newsmaker Sports - National ,State & District Tournaments 2019

To create a sustainable platform for sports, the students undergo training from time to time. The real potential is displayed during the tournaments organized at different levels. Our students showed power, grace, fearlessness, and team spirit.

Aumkaran Sharma came 2nd in the National Championship. In the recently concluded National Ranking at Gopichand Academy, Hyderabad, he defeated  India Ranking #1 of Prakash Padukone Academy Ansh Negi in semi-finals but lost in the third round.

Design Championship Competition - 2019

More than 50 schools participated in the Design Championship competition with almost 300 participants across the schools.

DESIGN CHAMPIONSHIP consists of five different designing categories i.e. GRAPHIC DESIGN, INDUSTRIAL DESIGN, MOVIE MAKING, APP DESIGNING, AND GAME DESIGN. All five categories have a different theme based on critical and creative thinking. In Graphic design the theme was "CREATIVE AD DESIGN" on(ZERO HUNGER CAMPAIGN), for Industrial Design it was "ECO-FRIENDLY FOOD PACKAGE" , for Movie Making "SACRIFICE" for App Design it was "TOUR OF INDIA-LOCAL CUSTOMS" And for Game Design "CONNECTING WORLD"

29 students from our school got selected in DESIGN CHAMPIONSHIP and showcased their talent in front of the participating schools and jury members.

Our Junior Game Team got "Runner-up award" out of 20 participating teams

And the Senior Game Team got the first Prize’’ out of 15 participating teams, and they would be representing their game at the GAME JAM TITANS competition organized by NASSCOM to be held in Hyderabad.

THIRD SESSION With Col.(Retd.) Gopal Karunakaran

Where he talks about career possibilities in Indian Armed Forces. So how’s the josh!

 

The session started on a high note with Col. Gopal meeting the children after a long time. Students were really excited to see him. He introduced NDA (National Defense Academy) as one of the most prestigious & respected careers in the country and the first tri-service academy in the world where all the three forces (Army, Air-force and Navy) are trained. He talked about his training and learning in NDA stating his real life stories which were exciting and relatable for the students to understand the expectations one should have if he/she chooses to be a part of NDA.

There was also a video showcase which brought alive ‘Life as a Cadet’. The video elaborated on the reasons on why one should choose Indian Armed Forces as a career and how youngsters can fulfill all their professional expectations by choosing a career of challenges, excitement, adventure as an officer in defense. He also mentioned that NDA is 3 years bachelors degree post which one chooses his/her specialization in either of the three streams (Army, Air-force and Navy).

The video also talked about the ways to enroll for NDA i.e. UPSC exams and there was a mention about The Service Selection Board (SSB), set up by the Ministry of Defense, SSB Interview to evaluate prospective candidates for recruitment in the Army, Navy and Air Force. The benchmarks on which the candidates are assessed include intelligence, personality, compatibility and potential. Hence, mental preparation holds prominence over physical preparation, although physical fitness will be an added advantage. A small demo of the same was given to the students. ABOUT THE SESSION

Post the video introduction Col. Gopal talked about the fact that one should choose career as per ones interest in a particular field and said that there are two major factors that define life, 1) Habits 2) Choices and We are who we are because of 3 things a) Environment b) Genes c) But most of all your free Will. Overall it was an informative and interactive session with 100% engagement and participation.

Janamashtami Celebrations @ Early Years

We at Shiv Nadar School believe in learning which is not restricted to books and instructions. Rather it is learning about our roots, culture and values by experiencing the same in the school’s ambience. Shiv Nadar School, Noida @ Silver Jubilee Celebrations of NCTE

The School was invited for the Silver Jubilee Celebrations of National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) on 17th and 18th August, 2019. In this two day International Conference on "Journey of Teacher Education: Local to Global", our school has been recognised for its best practices and its vision of learning and education for life.

The Choir Festival - 2019

The students from the Shiv Nadar School Western Music Choir basket won the 2nd Prize at the WMEA (Western Music Educators Association) All-India Inter-school Choir Competition. Hosted by Shiv Nadar School, Gurgaon, in the capacity of a venue-partner, the WMEA Event was held The first round auditions took place through a video submission of the performing choirs, following which, the top 10 schools were invited to perform at the Finale Event. This year, the Finale witnessed performances of choirs from schools coming from Kochi, Chennai, Surat, and Sikkim.

The Shiv Nadar School Choir had the audience enthralled with an original composition titled ‘Rise,’ followed by a lively performance of the song ‘Ingoma’ by African artist Thandiswa Mazwai. With all choirs giving phenomenal performances, covering various genres including classical, fusion, rock and pop, the level of competition, on the whole, was of huge educational value to our students.  The Shiv Nadar School  Choir was represented at this competition by 28 singers and 5 instrumentalists. Nearly 400 students participated in the competition

The WMEA is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing, promoting and advocating for music education and music educators. The choirs this year were judged by Dean Leuthi – Associate Professor of Music and Coordinator of Music Education at Washington State University-Pullmand, USA; Dr. Sam Tsugawa – Associate Professor of Music, Brigham Young University and Mrs. Sharmila Livingston, Conductor of the Capital City Minstrels, New Delhi.

Mango Mania - Nursery

The Nursery corridor was full of yellow and green shades all around as it was the much-awaited day for Mango Mania. As part of our theme ‘Senses’, the students of Nursery have been doing various activities involving their sense of taste, smell, touch, sight, and sound. With the end of mango season and as a culmination of the theme, we decided to celebrate an event called Mango Mania We honoured the King of fruits through the event.

Students came wearing yellow and green colored T-shirts for the celebration. There were a lot of mango products on display for example: ‘Aam Papad’, powdered mango, mango candies, mango juice, etc.  Students were also shown many varieties of real mangoes placed in various baskets and were able to smell as well as touch them. They were able to differentiate between the different varieties of mangoes through smell.

 Each class had 2 -3 parent volunteers who visited with delicious delicacies made of mangoes and they had a very interactive time with the students talking about how they prepared the dishes. The day was packed with fun activities such as ‘Pin the Mango’ and mango painting.

Visit to Parliament by Year 11 and 12 Students

Our students of Grades 11 and 12 observed the 17th Lok Sabha proceedings in its first session post the elections. These students are currently reading Legislature and Executive and had an opportunity to gain experiential understanding of their course topics.

Students observed debate and discussions in the Lok Sabha, as a representative of the three Ds of democracy: Debate, Dissent and Decide. They heard eminent members of Parliament debate on the topic- The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2019.  Post their visit, further discussions were held on the Bill to educate the students on its pros and cons and to inform them about the various aspects of Lok Sabha’s proceedings and procedure of the passage of law.

Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey lost his life while fighting in Kargil. He said:” If death strikes before I prove my blood, I swear I’ll kill death”. Our students had researched about those brave soldiers who fought valiantly and lost their lives. They presented an informational skit which left the audience nostalgic. 

The objective was to reinforce the importance of 26th July 1999 and understand it’s relevance in our History. We showcased a video where children of Shiv Nadar School were asked to recognize some important dates like 14th Nov, 26th January and 5th September etc. and then finally they were asked to recognize 26th July 1999 which left them speechless!

Building on the same note, we showcased a video which brought the Kargil War Alive. Why and where it happened, how many brave soldiers we lost and when did it come to an end explaining the whole event in chronological manner. Finally seeding in the importance of this day in our lives and Indian History.

Then we had a poem recitation by Mansi Grade 9 student where she recited a poem on Kargil War by Late Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Followed by though of the day by Suhani grade 9 student - As George Patton said, “The soldier is the Army. No army is better than its soldiers. The Soldier is also a citizen. In fact, the highest obligation and privilege of citizenship is that of bearing arms for one’s country.”
We concluded the assembly with 2mins silence in the remembrance of our martyrs and National Anthem.

WALK THE TALK

Chef Bhasin started the session with showcasing an interesting video about cooking techniques which are used in the Hotel Industry to create different cuisines and food shapes. He introduced children with the fact that Everything about a professional kitchen (even an educational one) is easily 100 times more intense than your home kitchen. Knives are sharper, stoves are hotter, space is tighter, and everything moves at a sprintlike pace. Even simple tasks like turning on a stove are much more difficult, and you'll be expected to figure everything out very quickly.

Post the video introduction, he briefly talked about Hotel Management and different streams it offers. He shared his journey, experiences, challenges and various opportunities that came his way of becoming an Executive Chef. He talked about the role & responsibilities one needs to take up to survive in Hotel and Tourism Industry and also mentioned about one clear Rule - ‘Customers First’ Chef Bhasin referred himself as a chef who gives emotions to the ingredients to reach the heart through the stomach. He motioned that "Visual appeal and presentation is key to a cuisine and a concept's success as we do eat with our eyes and first impressions are everlasting," He talked about cross culture culinary experience with some real life example to relate with our students.

The icing on the cake was the live demo where he prepared ‘Watermelon and Feta Salad’ for our audience.
