Create Change Challenge - The Young Achievers

The University of Queensland, Australia, conducted an inter-school competition Create Change Challenge - Sustainable innovation for future cities to foster innovation and creativity in high school students. 30 schools pan registered for it, students from 12 top schools got the opportunity to learn from and interact with UQ academics who delivered interactive masterclasses in the areas of Science, Business, and Engineering. After master class school teams were asked to pick up the problem and present a sustainable innovative solution with a business plan. They were given 1 hour preparation time to decide upon the topic and prepare for the presentation. After all brainstorming, the team decided to propose a solution to traffic congestion and curbing the pollution at junctions. The teams were given 8 minutes to present the solution, they started with talking of lopsided nature of traffic and proposing a solution to it using 5G and Google maps at junctions to have dynamic  traffic light time, the data can be sent to the central server which can be used for various purposes by government and companies. To curb the pollution at junctions as the emission of CO2 is high by standing vehicles they proposed installing a machine at junctions which absorbs the Carbon-Dioxide and convert it into Graphene using a chemical process which can be used for various purposes, Graphene is stronger than a diamond and has high electrical conductivity. Our students - Om Shelat, Tanishka Sahay, G.S. Charita, and Krish Laxminarayan won the competition and they received a rolling trophy and a MacBook Air as a winning prize.

Happy Hat Day & Grandparents Day

Happy Hat Day - Nursery

The Nursery corridor was full of joy and fun for two days as 'Happy Hat Day' was celebrated with fervour. Parents came with the materials required for the activity and everyone made their own unique hats. Some made itusing waste material and some used colorful stickers along with many other decorative items. It was a great opportunity for parents to bond with their children as most of them were making a hat for the first time

Grandparents Day - Nursery & Kindergarten

They are the founders of a loving legacy, best storytellers, greatest keepers of traditions and treasure of any family – 'Grand Parents'.

The Pre Primary celebrated the bond shared between a grandparent and their grandchild in an unforgettable way. To honor them 'Grand Parent's day was celebrated The excitement was at its peak amongst our little ones from the day they commenced preparing for the ‘Big Day’. Brimming with enthusiasm, love, and affection, the grandparents entered the classes looking for their grandchild. They, in turn, were met with loving, wide-eyed faces of their grandchild. All the classes carried forward the show in their own planned way which started with the welcome song sung by the students. After the introductions, there were grandparents who had volunteered to participate and perform for the children. Some sang melodious songs, few took storytelling sessions and even danced with the children! Some fun activities and games were organized by the teachers as well. It felt that within the blink of an eye it was time to say goodbye to them. The students saw off their grandparents with tight hugs and kisses, a wonderful parting gift in the form of cards or handmade pottery items were given to them.

Career Guidance Centre- Sessions at a glance for August

The Career Guidance Centre at Shiv Nadar School Noida conducted month-long sessions in August for its senior school students to help them make informed decisions about their future course of study.

We had Ms. Amber, International Admissions Counselor, Michigan State University; Ms. Bhattacharya, Country Advisor, University of British Columbia, Canada and Mr. Himanshu Sharma, Assistant Assistant Manager of Anant Fellowship Program, Anant University who interacted with students from CBSE and IB and shared information with respect to admission requirements, programs offered, financial aspect, scholarships, work opportunities after graduation and other queries of the students.

Mr. Moustafa, International Recruitment Manager at Huron University conducted a workshop on MUN Negotiation Skills on 21st August. He is a published author in Huron’s international, public undergraduate research journal - “The Liberated Arts”. He gave various examples and case studies of negotiation projects, the steps involved in the process and positional bargaining. Towards the second half of the session, Mr. Moustafa did a hands on activity with students. The students enjoyed participating in the activity and came up with some really interesting opinions.

A session on CIALFO Training for Grade 12 students was held to make Grade 12 students well versed with the online portal CIALFO. It was primarily for the focused group of students who are looking at applying to overseas Universities. They were given a detailed understanding of the functions of this portal. This was a much required session for the batch of 2019-20 to help them independently work on the CIALFO portal and put together all academic data on one platform.

Career Fair was organized by KIC UnivAssist for Grade 11 and 12 students. Renowned universities like California Baptist University, Florida International University, New York Film Academy, Ohio University, San Diego State University, University Of Illinois, Chicago and many others participated.

The Parent's Collective -2019

Juggling between parenthood and their careers, if there is one thing that makes parent body smile is their sheer energy, grit, and determination in presenting to us their creativity in the form of Parent’s Collective. In the past, they have showcased two Musicals "Sound Of Music" and "Grease" This season 150 members from the parents' fraternity showcased their talent in theater, music, dance and all backstage help, makeup, compering and media.

In theatre it was "Ghalib ki Haveli, in dance "Tarana" by Shri Pandit Ravi Shankar Ji was presented in a rhythmic Kathak Dance and in music it was beautiful bouquet of 3 compositions of Gazal, a Tarana composition based on Raag Kaafi and a Qawwali by the famous Baba Bulleh Shah - Mera Piya Ghar Aaya.

A chess prodigy - Tashna Aggarwal

Our Student Tashna Aggarwal from Grade 3 has grabbed a Gold medal in the recently conducted Western Asia Chess Championship held in Delhi from 4th to 11th September 2019. Players from about 10 nations had participated in this event. 

Tashna started playing chess at the tender age of 6. In a span of 3 years, she has excelled at this mind challenging game and has competed in both National and International tournaments of chess.   

 

The 29th Oliphant Memorial Debate at welhams Boy's school

The 29th Oliphant Memorial Debate was organized by Welham Boy's School  Sixteen teams including Welham Girl's School participated  Shreaya Malhotra and G.S. Charita of Grade 12, and Piya Sharma and Drisha Dadheech of Grade 10 represented Shiv Nadar School, Gurugram. Through three grueling preliminary rounds of British Parliamentary format of debating, Shiv Nadar School managed to qualify for the semi finals. The topics varied from the humanization of robots to opposing minority institutions to whether developing countries should be allowed to sell their natural resources to salvage international monetary debt. The semi finals topic being a national curriculum for all school students, the students put up a good fight  However, Drisha Dadheech managed to bag the Best Debater Overall award along with a cash prize while Piya Sharma won the Most Promising Debater award along with a cash prize.

Visit to Parliament

Students of grade 5 got a once in a lifetime opportunity to visit the Parliament house in Delhi on 3rd September 2019.  They were in awe of the supreme legislative body of India. They were able to observe and correlate their classroom learning to the whole trip. They saw the Lok sabha, Rajya sabha and the central hall and learnt about their respective seating plan.

Students also got to know about Democratic Heritage in India  . Thereafter, they actively participated in the session conducted for them. Overall, this was an educational visit which would  propel the students to become the next responsible and dedicated citizen of our country. 

Author on Campus -Ms. Deepa Agarwal

Well known children's writer Ms. Deepa Agarwal visited the school for a session with the students of Grade 6-8. The session started with Ms. Aggarwal talking to the students about her childhood in mussoorie, and how it inspired her to write her book Friendship stories.

She read some stories from her book and this was followed by a Question and answer session with the children. The children asked some very interesting questions about her childhood and who inspired her to write.

It was an enlightening session for all.

Career Guidance Centre - Sessions at a glance for August

The Career Guidance Centre aims at providing high school students with information about courses of study, career options, and possible career paths. The CGC supports students whenever the need arises to apply to institutions within India and overseas as well. The objective of the CGC is to help students make informed choices about their future course of study. Keeping in mind the trend of Foreign Universities visiting the country in the month of August, CGC conducted sessions and held University Fairs for the benefit of the students.

CGC held month-long sessions on different aspects of career guidance, started with the session on How to write Statement Of Purpose (SOP)

Mr. Gywn University Career Coach talked about Do's and Don't of writing SOP. He also explained the difference between Oxbridge Application and other UK Universities.

Ms. Tanushree Bhattacharya took the session on the process of applying to the University Of British Columbia. She explained to the students the importance of profile building, SOP and application process.

Ms. Naz Begum talked about different subject combinations available with
students and the college education scenario in India. She mentioned things which should be kept in
mind when going in for the college admission in India. She informed the students about the most
important Entrance test dates and asked students to prepare for their CBSE exams with NCERT
books and reference books as it plays a very important role in board examinations.

Mr. Avtansh Behal shared his experiences of studying abroad in two different countries with the students while guiding them in shaping their own plans for studying abroad. Students were able to see that he has made it despite congenital Cerebral Palsy, overcoming physical challenges and prejudice.

Ms. Kavita Singh talked about the US holistic admission process and how should a student approach towards it. She helped students understand 6 case studies of the students who made to the top Universities like Stanford, Oxford, Princeton. She also emphasized that students should not only built a compelling profile but showcase it effectively with their application essay, resume, and recommendations.

Mr. Manu Dhawan talked about how reading can help you become a better person. Creative writing involves 'Inciting Incident' and 'conflict' which grabs the reader’s attention. He added that bad writing is the secret to compelling writing as it leads you to write repeatedly and thus enhances the writing skills. Mr. Himanshu Sharmatalked about different careers in design and how to pursue them in India. He also explained to the students about design thinking and how it helps in following the passion for art & design. He introduced all the design courses available at Anant University to the students and mentioned about the tie ups with universities abroad
