The Special Education Needs Department, Shiv Nadar School held its annual event – “Ability Week” in the month of November, an endeavor to honour International day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) where we all come together to laud and embrace each other’s abilities, human diversity and inclusivity. The aim of celebrating the Ability Week is understanding and acceptance of people with varied abilities and celebrating their achievements and contributions to the society as well as to empower individuals with diverse needs. The theme for this year was –Life Skills and Problem Solving. An array of activities to foster the same was held in each homeroom of the Primary years, led by the SEN team in collaboration with the Home Room Educators.
Students of Early Years and Grade 2 learnt resolving big emotions through movement by engaging in exercise and yoga. The activity focused on developing problem solving skills through self-regulation, relaxation, communication, learning to be resilient and ability to change.
A story telling activity was conducted in grade 3 to help students understand the similarities and differences in our surroundings. It provided students with opportunities to see that while each of us does and grasps some things well, some other things are hard or challenging for us. The message being that we are all different in some ways, but we all have the same needs for respect, acceptance, inclusion and friendship. this storytelling activity to help students learn how to cope with everyday problems they may face with friends and classmates.
A special assembly was held to culminate the week and reflect upon the learnings. The rhythm of the assembly was an Introduction to the International Day for Persons with Disabilities.
Indian Constitution Day Celebration
The Indian Constitution is the world's longest written constitution. It provides an excellent framework for governing the world's largest democracy. It nurtures the aspirations of its citizens and provides the widest possible amplitude for the realization of individual liberties while enforcing the need for collective growth and development. As we celebrate 71 years of this remarkable document for social, economic, and political development which has informed almost every sphere of Indian life, we at Shiv Nadar School, Noida aim to sensitize our young citizens towards their duties to the nation, society, and fellow citizens.
This year a quiz was organised for the students, the aim was to make them conscious of their social responsibilities and help them become active participants in the progress of the nation. The students enthusiastically participated and displayed great zeal and understanding of the Constitution of India and its numerous provisions. It was great to watch the students engage with the questions and with each other in the spirit of the game.

Virtuosity – An Exposition, 2021
We at Shiv Nadar School believe that Art catalyses imagination and consciously engages in performing, creating, responding and exploring different Art forms across a range of educational frameworks. We believe that to be able to express oneself, art lends us the power and space to ‘create’. This creation when shared with others, helps us build bonds and creates connectedness – something we value immensely.
Parent Partnership Office brings to you the first edition of Virtuosity – an Exposition. The exhibition which premiers today is curated on a thread that intertwines the different art forms representing a deep connection between the parent community and the school. This interconnectedness brings together the individual aspects and creates a cohesive whole. We share with you this space to experience the ’Oneness of Us’.

Science Engagement day
8 of our Grade 11 Science students visited the Shiv Nadar University on Friday, 23rd October for the "Science Engagement day". The students got to interact with scientists, professors and undergraduate students who ignited their curiosity by unravelling the wonders of Science. Dr Sanjeev Galande’s introductory session showcased the interdisciplinary nature of scientific research. Students who visited the Biology lab could witness and perform the DNA gel electrophoresis, which they had read only in textbooks. At the Physics lab, students were excited to witness the "Wave nature of electrons", Newton's ring and other experiments which were beyond the reach of the school labs. At the Chemistry lab, students got to observe and understand the setup of NMR spectroscopy, X-Ray Diffraction Crystallography, Gas chromatography, HPLC, IR spectroscopy, Mass spectroscopy, UV spectroscopy etc. The event helped bridge the gap between senior school teachers, students and researchers/professors for a deeper understanding of Natural Sciences, and was a step towards encouraging the students to pursue a career in scientific research.

Distraction to traction.
A chess prodigy, Shubh Kapoor’s (Gr.9 at SNS-Gurugram) journey started at the tender age of 6 following the diagnosis of an autoimmune disease called juvenile arthritis. Between high doses of medicines and not being able to lead a normal active life, he was introduced to chess as a means to pass time and keep the mind agile. Soon Shubh was able to defeat children 5-6 years older than him. This innate ability and intelligent grasp of the nuances of the game kept him happy and mentally active.
To give a boost to his talent he started professional coaching. Shubh participated in tournaments all across the country before his parents relocated to Kuala Lumpur. There his exposure was international, keeping aside his problems Shubh choose to focus on moving forward like the pawns on the chessboard, one step at a time.
Shubh specialises in the Simul format, where one player (typically of a high rank) plays multiple games at a time with a number of other players. Playing the Simul at the Taylor’s International School, KL Malaysia, Shubh won them all.
At the recently held Asian School Chess Championship in July 2021, Shubh represented India and won an individual Silver Medal while helping the team, India A, to bag the Gold. Shubh’s current FIDE ranking is 1617 and No.2 in India and Asian U-15 (amongst 24 countries).
Bob the builder sang, “… can we fix it, yes we can….” Looks like Shubh has learned that mantra very well.
