Literary Week- Middle and Senior School, SNS Faridabad
Shiv Nadar School, Faridabad organized a Literary week from the 24th to the 31st of January, 2022. Middle school (Grades 6-8) marked the event with an array of activities that catered to nurture love and appreciation for literature, boost creativity, and inculcate a reading habit in the students.
The week kicked off with ‘Musings under the Sun’, a lively session curated to bring out the creator in you. Students found a cozy spot and enjoyed free style writing, composing poems, painting, sketching and doodling on various themes. Grade 8 also had the opportunity to attend the interactive session ‘In conversation with Anju Ma’am’, wherein she spoke about her love for reading and discussed her favourite books. The insightful and engaging session inspired many to take up reading.
The activity of the following day was ‘Book Cover Design’ where students designed book covers of their own choice. Students across Middle school immersed in the process of designing covers, some of which were a re-thinking and some completely original in essence.
Story Dice, the final activity of the week, was a novel experience for the students. In groups, they rolled the dice and brainstormed the prompts to weave beautiful and interesting stories.
One of the activities taken up in the senior school was Twitter tales. In Twitter Tales, one needs to compose a story within 280 characters, including spaces ,with a beginning and an ending. It surely unleashed the creativity and a new generation of twiterratti was born.
Grade 11 learnt how to write Haiku poetry when Ishaani ma’am and Mitu ma’am took a session with them. Haiku poetry is an entire poem in three lines with five syllables in the first line, seven in the second, and five in the third. Many eleventh graders were inspired to write Haiku poetry and also did haiku jam on an app for Haiku. They shared their haiku poems and enjoyed thoroughly.
Slam poetry was organised in grades 9-11 on Day 3 of literary week. It is a genre of performance poetry that is currently trending, and it lets the poet bring out the angst within. The students wrote laudable poems and read them out aloud in front of their peers.
The culmination of the literary fest – Sahitya Kaafila was organised on 31st January.
None other than Shakespeare said “Literature is the comprehensive essence of the intellectual life of a nation.” This holds so true for a country with so much diversity, especially when it comes to languages. Each language has a rich literature, which we showcased in Sahitya Kaafila. The Kaafila was the journey traversed with the evolution of languages through a variety of literature pieces not only pan India but also from other corners of the world. The students picked up pieces from literature of different languages and gave a rendition in that language. The languages ranged from Bengali, Assamese to Urdu and foreign languages such as French, German and Russian also mesmerized the audience.
It was indeed a worthy culmination to a week-long indulgence in literature and the love for literature.
The literary week was a great opportunity to provide a window to the students’ minds and open the doors of their hearts!
A festival for promoting the love for literature, the Literary week, with its plethora of activities was truly an enriching experience for the students.
SOUL Fest - Spirit of Unlimited Learning
One of the defining principles of progressive schooling is the culture of sharing best practices and strategies. Shiv Nadar School has consistently imparted the same and aims to continue on this path, undeterred.

The SOUL Fest is an event which will showcase the yearlong projects taken up by students and the process which they have undergone through the year along with their mentors. It is about students' agency- their choice and voice. It goes without saying that the purpose here is to inculcate the 6 Cs of education.

In Conversation with our Director Principal
The Literary Week for Middle and Senior was kickstarted on 24th January with Conversation with our Director Principal, Mrs Anju Wal. The student anchors asked questions about our Principal's love for reading and her favourite book lists. Some avid readers among the students were also asked about their perspectives and views. It was a very interactive and engaging session which was enjoyed by the students as well as teachers. The insights and depth of the answers given by the Principal and the student readers, inspired many to take up reading.

Let’s celebrate the Sun
As the education world explores strategies to equip students with the skills and knowledge they’ll need to be successful innovators in a 21st century workforce, there has been a growing emphasis on STEAM — the educational discipline that engages students around the subjects of Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Math.
It gives students tools and methods to explore new and creative ways of problem-solving, displaying data, innovating, and linking multiple fields. The arts and STEM subjects naturally complement and inform each other, so implementing STEAM principles into education allows for more understanding, innovation and a cohesive education in the classroom.
Based on the same principles, a cross campus follow on EBC-2 activities on the Theme : ‘Let’s Celebrate the Sun’ for middle school (Grade 6-8) students was organised at
Faridabad Campus on 23rd December 2021. The Social Science Department took the initiative to organise a few activities focused on the importance of the Sun in Geography. Various activities were organised on the basis of relevant concepts taught at different grades. The mode of sessions were all hybrid wherein the students participated online as well as the students physically present at the school. The attendance in all the sessions were around 80 percent.=+

Topic: Difference in the duration of day with changing seasons.
Activity :
- An advertisement to invite people in different hemispheres in the month of December.
- 2D presentation of the motions of the Earth .
- 3D Models of the motions of the Earth.
GROUP A: Students of grade VI participated in a group activity to advertise their location in Southern hemisphere where duration of days are longer in December and various activities like Surfing, Uluru Camel Camp, Cricket ‘The Ashes series ‘could be enjoyed . They focused on advertising the destination through different Art forms and subjects like pictorial representations , statistical data analysis, financial aspects involved, mode of transportation.
Group B and C : Students made 2D models presenting the Tilt of the Earth as the cause in the difference in the duration of Day in different seasons.
GROUP D (Online students ) : Presented a 3D working model of the motions of the Sun and the Earth.

Topic: Layers of the Atmosphere
Activity :
1. An advertisement to invite people in the different habitable layers of the atmosphere.
2. D/3D presentation of their habitable layer of the atmosphere.
GROUP A :Students of grade VII participated in a group activity to advertise their habitable layer of the atmosphere. They focused on advertising the layer through different Art forms and subjects. The activities organised were Role play, Rap singing, pictorial Representations , physical phenomenon like temperature and pressure change, geographical location like altitude ,wind, humidity and cloud cover, chemistry composition of the air.
Group B and C : Students made 2D models presenting the importance of their habitable layer of the atmosphere.
GROUP D (Online students ) : Presented a 3D working model of the temperature variation in the different layers of the atmosphere.

For Grade VIII
Topic: Changing Agricultural patterns in the world.
Activity :
- Students were divided in groups of 4 each.
- Each group needed to create a sketch of farmland from their locality.
- Each group identified the factors and type of crops they would cultivate in their farmland.
- Showcase diversification of crops (varieties of crops) to increase their trade and business from your own farmland.

- The students were able to identify and analyze the factors responsible for the shift in agricultural activities around the world. Make connections between Rotation of the earth, it’s tilt and duration of the day.
- Compare and comprehend the factors affecting agriculture in the world.

- Focus on the cropping patterns in India and in the world.
- Recognise how the climate change could affect the global agricultural within a decade..
- Represent the factual information on how the climate change impact the agriculture.

- Analyse the case study how farmers mitigate and adapt to climate change.
- Pictorial representation and map plotting skills.
- Plan and advertise the best agricultural practises highlighting all the social, political and geographical aspects.
- Make 3 d working models of the Farmlands.
The activities were thoroughly enjoyed by the students as they learnt to appreciate the gifts of nature and its contribution in social and economic development. The students realised their duty towards nature and were able to develop empathy with it. The educators and parents highly appreciated the activities and recommended such activities to be integrated in the regular curriculum across the grades. The Principal, Ms Anju Wal commended the idea of integrating Social Sciences in making such sessions wherein the scientific concepts were presented and related with real life situations. This encourages students to develop their critical thinking skills.
The Deputy Head, Middle School, Ms Megha Bohra appreciated the efforts of the teachers in organising and executing the activities. The guidelines specified for the all the activities were duly followed by the Mentors and students alike.

Literary Week - Grades 3 to 5
Grades 3 to 5 marked the Literary Week from 22nd to 26th November to foster love and appreciation for literature.
The students of Grade 3 engaged in versatile activities as a part of the celebrations. Beginning with the meaning of 'literary' to exploring music with similes, the students experienced 5 days of diverse learning.
The week's kick-starter was an interactive session 'In Conversation With Roald Dahl' incorporating Role Play by one of the teachers. The students got an opportunity to learn more about the author's life in the form of an interview.
We integrated language learning with arts through a 'Poster Making' activity. The students designed posters for the opening ceremony of a sandwich shop in their neighbourhood based on their reading of the story 'Irma's Sandwich Shop' on RAZ Plus.
Storytelling is being increasingly recognised as one of the pillars of language learning. Grade 3 students enjoyed a storytelling session based on 'Incredible Investigation' along with the Role Play of characters, which tickled their funny bones. We also invited Spark Studio to conduct Storytelling Workshops wherein a facilitator guided them on how to read with expressions and structure their own stories.
Grade 3's Literary Week culminated with the introduction of 'Rhyme Scheme' in classes. The students travelled back to their nursery days and enjoyed identifying rhyming patterns in poems.
In grade 4, the week showcased myriad activities and students actively participated to show their creative side.
Literary week aimed at infusing the students with understanding, appreciation, and love of the English language.
The students participated in an array of activities with great zest and zeal like creating limericks, designing their own comic strips and creating adjective flip books.
The students also enjoyed the author's session that was organized online over Zoom.
Towards the end of the literary week, the children were thrilled to display their creatively original limericks and comic strips on the class board.
Grade 5 celebrated the literary week through a multitude of activities including storytelling, fun with similes to the art of composing limericks.
Students listened to interesting folktales and inspirational stories during storytelling sessions. They adorned the author’s cap to give twist to some age-old stories. They had a writer’s workshop where they learnt about development of character and dialogue writing. They culminated the literary week by using the characters they created and their knowledge of dialogue writing in a comic strip. It was 5 days of enrichment for them.
Indian National Space Settlement Design Competition
For the second year in a row, 12 of our students of Grade 9-11 participated in the Space Settlement Design competition, where high-school students are put in the shoes of aerospace engineers, and are expected to design a space settlement in the bid to win a contract. With Mars being on the outlook and visitors coming in from Earth the idiom "grass is always greener on the other side" has stopped making sense for our students. This time in INSSDC, our students were challenged to make a settlement on planet Mercury in a Lava tube. They proposed a settlement for manufacturing and researching the materials found there while housing 300 occupants. Students depicted operations for all the basic yet crucial components of atmosphere regulation, electrical power, food production and waste/water management for the settlement. As working on a contract set for 2087 they were expected to automate all operations which made human intervention minimal. For the 300 individuals, our students designed plans for the workplaces, hubs, residential areas, communities and recreational activities to keep all onboard engaged and make it a priority to ensure that they live up to their expectations. Responsible for designing and providing robotics services essential for the various functions, the Automations department was solely in charge of the safety systems, emergency systems, contingency systems and even backup systems to ensure that residents would be prepared at all times!
Students for a chance to interact with and learn from engineers from the aerospace industry who were mentors and judges in the competition. Along with building on their knowledge of space science, our students learnt communication, resilience, perseverance, and most importantly, that there is no 'I' in a team.
Anti-Bullying Program
In continuation to the week where we marked 'International day of Persons with Disabilities, the Counselling Team has planned a program for Grades 4-11 titled 'The Safe School Space Project' to address themes of bullying and teasing so we can encourage children to create more conducive spaces for one another. It will be implemented throughout this week through various modes- CIrcle time, SEE Learning classes and co-scholastic collaboration. Cross-curricular collaboration was also aimed at, since classes have been the breeding ground for reflective discussions. The counselling team created a holistic plan for the program for the Week 6th -10th December. The lessons come under Provisions of Child Protection and Safe School Policy.
Celebrating Uniqueness
Celebration of International Day of People With Disabilities/different abilities happened across the school. The International Day of Persons with Disability is observed annually all across the world on the 3rd of December. Shiv Nadar School, Faridabad, dedicated the 29th to 3rd of December to mark the event. We focused on learning more about how not all disabilities are visible, and how we can hear everyone's abilities speak louder than their disabilities. There were activities like- poster making, logo designing, flash mobs, silent National Anthem, presentations, storytelling and discussions around the topic. On 3rd of December, we had an enriching panel discussion with Ms.Manjushree Patil (speaker and expert with 3 decades of experience in the area of special needs, Mr. and Mrs. Singh and their son Kabeer Singh which shared about their journey with their older son and Kabeer sibling, Sehej who is very bright and on the spectrum. There were a lot of take aways from the session. The date for this observance was decided by the United Nations in 1992. Each year, the United Nation. With students and teachers from across the school conducted various activities and talents were showcased.

Children’s Day Celebrations at Shiv Nadar School Noida

The students of Shiv Nadar School Noida had a great Back to School experience when they came back on campus on 15th November 2021. The teachers and staff members of the school came together to organize a befitting celebration for all students, be it on campus or off campus, right from Early Years to Senior Years.
The Circle of Love reverberated once again with the sounds of the littlest members of the school singing their favourite prayer songs. The Arts Team sewed up special musical presentations for all cohorts of the school which made not only the little children get up and shake a leg or two but also got the teachers and everyone grooving to their tunes. The sports team organized games for all.
The teachers of all cohorts went all the way in making this a special affair for their students. From carefully choosing game stalls to planning activities, everyone came together to put up an elaborate carnival, which had all the essences of a fair - games, fancy dressing, karaoke stalls, tattoo painting, musical presentations and dance jams! A befitting finale to the day was the surprise Flash Mob conducted by the primary teachers for their lovely audiences peering down from the corridors above the Circle of Love.
