Art of Persuasion
One of the most powerful skill to create an impactful communication is PERSUASION. We influence each other all the time whether we like it or not. Communication through persuasion is like a thread that runs through every area of ones life. it’s a situation that arises almost every day, whether it’s getting your friends agree on the same point, or getting your teachers to give you less homework, or your parents to agree on sending you on a school trip, PERSUASION is a part of day to day happenings. Few seem to be able to do it effortlessly whereas others find it immensely difficult to convince people and their peer groups.
In such a scenario it’s essential that one knows how to get his/her point across succinctly and effectively with ease. Todays session was to bring alive some easy and great techniques of convincing and persuading people around for better and effective communication.
We initiated our second session of our second topic of Education for Life – Art of Persuasion for grade 9 students, curated and orated by Ms. Anju Wal.
Session was divided into two parts
Part 1: Case Study in a video format
The session started with talking about one of the historic movies of late 1957 ‘12 Angary Men’ and its main protagonist ‘Henry Fonda’. The plot of the movie was described in detail to set the context of the upcoming techniques for relatability and easy comprehension.
Short clippings of the movie which showcased the ability of questioning, reasoning, arguing, convincing were shown to the students to give them a live demo of ‘Power of Persuasion’.
Post the movie clips 3 unique and easy to adapt techniques were share with the students
- Unfreeze or mobilise the group!
- Influence opinion & drive the momentum of persuasion!
- Freeze the change, consolidate the momentum created, opinion generated!
Part 2: Real Life Situations
Post the presentation, students were divided into groups of 5 and 6 each and each group was asked to chose a chit from the bowl of chits which had some real life relatable situations. Each Group had to present the case and persuade other groups on the thought process.

Expressions Carnival @ Shiv Nadar School Noida
Shiv Nadar School Noida cordially invited children from the age 3-8 years and their parents for the Expressions Carnival on Saturday, 24th August 2019 from 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM.
Highlights of the event-
There were sessions like pottery making, fire-free cooking, souvenir design, theatre & drama and engaging science experiments for children. They had opportunities for skill development such as gross motor development, sensory exploration, body co-ordination, language & analytical skills, interpersonal skills and fostering creativity. The parents had an opportunity to meet the Senior Leadership, understand the Shiv Nadar School system and get answers to admission related queries.

Independence Day Celebration @ Early Years
To infuse learning with patriotism and self- expression amongst our children, we celebrated Independence Day with a distinct flavour to experience the real meaning of freedom by living it on Tuesday, August 13, 2019.
The day started with the children attending a special Musical Assembly, ‘Sargam’ where Year I Gir children presented a special assembly in the Circle of Love. This was followed by ‘Wings to Fly’ activity, wherein a series of child- centered activities were carried out in the Early years wing and the Activity Centre, giving children the liberty to choose the activity they would like to do. The KG children were divided into groups which also gave them an opportunity to mingle with their peers from other sections and enjoy as a cohesive group.
The Year I children had ‘Kite Making’ craft activity to enhance their fine motor skills.

HUMANISTA- Humanities Fest, 1st Edition @ Shiv Nadar School, Noida
HUMANISTA 2019 is the first edition of our Interschool Humanities Fest being held on 13th and 14th August. The Fest is aimed at nurturing humanities education among our youth and bringing the dynamic 21st century world alive through experiential and project based learning and exchange of ideas. The theme of the inaugural fest is - I am the Change. Many Schools in and around the city participated in this event such as Army Public School, Amity International School, Delhi Public School, Vidyagyan School, Father Agnel School and Jaypee Public School.

The Sahodaya Meeting - Delhi and FBD Region
Shiv Nadar School hosted a Sahodaya Meeting on 30th July 2019 in which Principals from prestigious South Delhi schools participated.
An intriguing session on AIML (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning) was conducted by Dr Siddharth Joshi, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Notre Dame for the Principals and Teachers.

Mass Afforestation Drive @ Uday Upvan Sorkha
Students, Educators and Parents of Shiv Nadar School participated in the Mass Afforestation Program at Uday Upvan Sorkha, Noida on Sunday, August 11, 2019. The students and parents zealously planted native saplings at the urban forest thereby lending their support in conserving the environment and combating climate change.

Shiv Nadar School Noida @ Inter School Aquatic Championship
The School swimmers ( under all age groups) have made us proud by winning 26 medals in the Inter School Aquatic Championship 2019 held on 27thAugust and 28st August at Step by Step School, Noida. Students from over 19 schools had participated in this competition.
Earlier in the month of August, the swimmers secured 19 medals in the Inter School Aquatic Championship 2019 held on 10th and 11th August at YMCA, Greater Noida and 34 medals in yet another championship held at G.D. Goenka Global School on 31st July and 1st August. Students across 35 schools had participated in these championships.
International Baccalaureate Diploma Program Orientation
International Baccalaureate Diploma Program Orientation was hosted in our school on 3rd August, Saturday for grades 7, 8 & 9 parents. It was an hour and a half session where the objective was to broadly inform parents about the program and how it aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through inter-cultural understanding and respect. The session was hosted by Ms Garg where she also talked about the structure of the program and how the IB works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. Our Principal, Ms. Anju Wal spoke about the Authorization Process and expectations from the program. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
She also introduced the IB learner profile and talked about the subject choices. She also informed the parents about the assestment pattern and how overall it is different from C.B.S.E curriculum.
