At Shiv Nadar School Faridabad, Earth Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and purpose across all grades, as learners engaged in meaningful experiences that deepened their understanding of environmental responsibility, sustainability, and their connection with nature.
Learners from Foundation Years to Kindergarten explored and appreciated the Earth and its diversity through a range of age appropriate and immersive experiences. Foundation Year learners connected with nature through a guided nature walk where they observed plants and birds, followed by discussions on ways to care for the Earth and its living beings.
Nursery learners participated enthusiastically in riddles, an action song, and a nature walk, and planted a sapling to foster a sense of appreciation and responsibility towards the environment.
Kindergarten learners deepened their understanding through a hands on seed ball activity that encouraged environmental care and sustainable practices. The celebrations concluded with the Mudumalai and Ranthambore assembly presentations, where learners showcased their appreciation for nature and wildlife through vibrant expressions and performances.
On the occasion of Earth Day, the Early Years at Shiv Nadar School Faridabad launched Earth-minded Learning 2.0, an initiative aligned with SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production. The programme commenced with an introductory session designed to familiarise learners with the ideas of mindful living, sustainability, and responsible choices in everyday life.
As part of the initiative, learners were introduced to eight experiential learning baskets — Kaagaz ki Duniya, Moolgyan, Chhoti si Rasoi, Kashidakari, Vigyan ke Karishme, Sewa aur Srijan, Kahaniyon ka Pitaara, and Haathon ka Kamaal. These baskets will be explored on a rotational basis throughout the academic year, offering children rich, hands on learning experiences connected to sustainability and environmental awareness.
Through activities such as setting up water baths for birds, exploring soil, engaging in paper mâché, and participating in other mindful experiences, learners will gradually develop a deeper sense of awareness, responsibility, empathy, and sustainable living practices. The initiative aims to nurture environmentally conscious learners who understand the importance of caring for the world around them through meaningful everyday actions.
Grades 1 and 2 celebrated Earth Day through engaging and reflective experiences that encouraged awareness, gratitude, and responsibility towards the environment. Learners explored the idea that the Earth provides for all our needs and reflected on how their everyday choices can positively impact the planet.
Grade 2 learners participated in a thoughtful Ladder of Inference activity where they analysed real life situations, discussed possible solutions, and articulated simple yet meaningful pledges as mindful Earthlings.
Grade 1 learners expressed their understanding through creative presentations, songs, and a “Promise Tree,” reinforcing their commitment to caring for the Earth.
The celebrations culminated in a hands on “From Seed to Plate” activity in the Moolgyan vegetable patch, where learners sowed seeds and experienced the values of patience, responsibility, and nurturing nature.
Earth Day celebrations in Grades 3 to 5 focused on sustainability, creativity, and conscious action. Students enthusiastically participated in creating “Best Out of Waste” products, learning the importance of recycling and mindful consumption.
They further explored sustainable practices by repurposing old T shirts into eco friendly bags, encouraging the idea of reducing waste through simple everyday actions.
A plastic collection drive was organised as part of the celebrations, with students actively bringing plastic waste from their homes to promote awareness about responsible waste management.
A key highlight of the event was an inspiring session by guest speaker Tulika Suneja, Founder of Green Hands, who spoke to students about sustainable living and the collective impact of small conscious actions in protecting the planet.
Students across the Middle and Senior Years participated in a range of meaningful activities, discussions, and collaborative projects focused on environmental awareness and responsibility. Through creative engagement and reflective conversations, learners explored the importance of protecting the Earth and adopting sustainable practices in their daily lives.
The celebrations encouraged students to become thoughtful global citizens and inspired them to take small but impactful steps towards building a greener and more sustainable future.
Earth Day, celebrated globally on 22 April each year, serves as a reminder of the urgent need to conserve natural resources, reduce pollution, and address environmental challenges such as climate change, deforestation, and loss of biodiversity. Through these thoughtfully designed experiences, Shiv Nadar School Faridabad continues to nurture environmentally conscious learners who are committed to creating a positive impact on the world around them.
