COL. GOPAL KARUNAKARAN
CEO, Shiv Nadar School
Before being designated the CEO, Colonel Gopal Karunakaran has served as the Director of Shiv Nadar School, playing a pivotal role in the laying down of a firm foundation of our institutions. Col. Gopal was earlier the Vice-President, Indus World Schools of the Career Launcher Group, where he headed the group's K-12 schools expansion drive.
Col. Gopal is a part of the Confederation of Indian Industries prestigious National Council on Education and in his former term was part of the team which made recommendations to the Government of India on the implementation of the Right to Education Act and Public-Private Partnership in education. His passion for education as a tool for social transformation has driven him to absorb a rich and diverse experience across all facets of school education including policy, academic leadership, operations and business, and an understanding of the key drivers of the educational sector in India.
Executive Director, Shiv Nadar School
Ms. Leena Aparajit has over three decades of experience in education at the level of strategy, policy and implementation. She began her career as a teacher of Mathematics, Physics and English Literature at schools across India.
In 1993, she joined The Shri Ram School, Gurgaon, as the founding Principal of its Senior School, and served the institution for over a decade. In 2005, she got the opportunity to set up an international (K-12 A level) school in Dubai. Post her stint in Dubai, she worked as an Advisor and consultant to The Scindia School, Gwalior. She has also served as Head of Education of The Aga Khan Education Service India, which works in the Development Sector in formal K -12 and non-formal education spaces in both rural and urban areas. In her capacity as a consultant, she has also worked with Ahvaan, an NGO that worked in areas of professional development of teachers of select Delhi Government schools.
Principal, Shiv Nadar School, Noida
Shashi Banerjee has explored curriculum and pedagogy across three continents through educational exchange programmes with the United Kingdom, Norway and Singapore. In her career span of two decades, she has developed teacher-training material, and has scripted, directed and presented musicals for children with diverse abilities. She is empanelled with the Doordarshan and AIR for discussions on cultural integration in school education. She is also involved in training teachers of the Navodaya Vidyalaya across India, facilitation the implementation of co-scholastic domain of the Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation since 2009. She also conducts trainings for NGOs on Volunteerism and Leadership Skills.
Ms. Banerjee iss a postgraduate in Education, English and Sanskrit, and holds a Master's degree in Indian Classical Music and Dance.
Principal, Shiv Nadar School, Gurgaon
Monica Sagar was formerly the Vice Principal at The Shri Ram School, Gurgaon, where she had served since 1997. Before adopting the mantle of Vice Principal, she had served as the Head of Department for IBDP and ISC/ICSE Economics, a subject she has been passionate about since her days as a student at Punjab University. It is there that she completed her Bachelors and Masters degree from, achieving first division in both. Ms. Sagar has touched the lives of a number of students who remember her fondly and are still in touch with her after years of leaving school. She enjoys reading, being updated about the latest educational practices and engaging with children of all ages.
Principal, Shiv Nadar School, Faridabad
Ms. Anju Wal, the Founding Principal of Shiv Nadar School Faridabad, is an educator of 22 years standing. A passionate teacher at heart, she started her career in Study Hall School, Lucknow, where she spent 10 years as a founding teacher touching a wide spectrum of grades from KG to grade 11; she brought innovative design to the teaching of English and raised standards of students under her care. She later moved to City Montessori School, and carved a niche for herself in the Senior Section, Department of English, teaching grades XI and XII. In 2006, she became Principal of Riverside School, where she worked for four years. In her last assignment she was Principal of a reputed educational institution, the Jaipuria School, Lucknow, for five years, leaving her indelible imprint behind. Her personal joy lay in the fact that she had the opportunity to start an English medium school for underprivileged children on the school campus and impart education free of cost to 251 boys and girls from nursery to grade 5, thus preparing them for mainstream education.
Ms. Wal studied at Mater Dei School at Delhi. A post graduate in English Literature, she studied at Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi and dabbled in theatre, debating, public speaking and writing. She plunged into advertising and journalism right after college and worked in Delhi, Bangalore and Hyderabad with Business India Magazine, before finding her calling in Education. Her intrinsic love for children was the pivotal reason for her love of teaching.
Ms. Wal likes to read and be with her family in her leisure hours. She believes in the pursuit of excellence, being passionate about she does and displaying a deep sense of commitments to her work.
Head, Teacher Empowerment
An alumna of Kolkata University, Payal Kapur began her teaching at Welham Boy's School, Dehradun as a member of the English faculty. Later, she taught English at the Agha Khan Education Centre, Delhi and at The Shri Ram School, Gurgaon, for over ten years, where she held several positions. From 2003 to 2007, she served as Principal of the Senior School at The Shri Ram School, Aravali. She joined as the founding Principal of Step by Step School, Noida in 2007, and continued in the capacity till 2012. As the Principal, she provided leadership and direction to ensure the smooth functioning and efficient delivery of the academic and co-curricular programmes.
Ms. Kapur is a passionate and innovate educator, having a deep understanding of children's educational requirements. She brings a wealth of experience to her role as the Head of Teacher Training at Shiv Nadar School.
